Wie ben ik?

I’m a cellist from Sydney, Australia with an interest in linking the old and the new and more than a decade of experience performing music in a variety of styles to different audiences around the world.

Currently based in Amsterdam, I develop both solo and collaborative performances and projects aimed at casting a new light on the classical repertoire. I also regularly team up with like-minded people on projects at the intersection of classical and contemporary music.

In 2015, after studies with Marcus Hartstein, David Pereira and Mats Rondin, I completed a masters with Larissa Groeneveld at the Koninklijk Conservatorium in Den Haag. The following year, I was lucky enough to receive a cello on loan from the NMF.

My NMF cello is fantastic! Working primarily with the new music collective s t a r g a z e, we've performed at the BBC proms in London, the Philharmonie in Paris as well as a number of festivals in Germany, Italy and Poland. This being my first 'real' instrument, I've been amazed at how it responds and develops over time. Having recently returned for a lesson with one of my previous teachers, the first thing he mentioned was "Wow, now I can hear how much you were struggling on your old cello!". What shame I didn't apply for an instrument from the NMF sooner...

I'm grateful to the NMF for giving me the opportunity to enjoy such a great cello!
