History of this instrument
In 1997, the Musical Instrument Fund commissioned Ronald de Jongh to build this tenor violin. This new-instrument project was funded by the VSB Fund. Elisabeth Smalt was the first player and enjoyed this instrument for no fewer than 16 years. Today, the instrument is available for loan on a project basis, and on this basis, the Amsterdam tenor violin was in the hands of Anneke van Haaften.
About the builder Ronald de Jongh
Ronald de Jongh studied the principles of violin making in Mathijs Heijligers’ workshop in Cremona, Italy. * He studied there from 1985 to 1990, using the models of the great Italian violin makers.
